Librarian Design Share is hosted by us, April Aultman Becker and Veronica Arellano Douglas, and powered by design-minded librarians everywhere.
Much of the work we do as librarians involves creating flyers, displays, handouts, websites and other designs that convey helpful information while looking good. Very few of us have any kind of formal design training, so we often rely on our own aesthetic preferences along with the opinions and ideas of colleagues.
After one too many design-related exchanges on Gmail and Google Chat, we decided that people who work in libraries really need a space to share their design work and gain inspiration from the work of others. In the spirit of Stephen X. Flynn’s awesome Open Cover Letters project, we wanted to create an open online repository of interesting library-related design.
Librarian Design Share is intended as a community of creativity for librarians, people who work in libraries, and library students. So contribute, comment, and share your designs!

Hello April and Veronica. I discovered your website today and wanted to congratulate you on your efforts to share with others inspirational and practical ideas and resources for design development of marketing materials for libraries. Although I am not at liberty to share files created for my library, I do appreciate sharing what knowledge and experiences I have in my own marketing design efforts. In that spirit, please feel welcome to view my blog which is dedicated specifically to designing promotional marketing materials at my public library district. If anyone has comments or questions, I’m happy to share what I know in return.
Kind regards, Scot Sterling for Library Graphic Design at http://librarygraphicdesign.blogspot.com/ .

Hello April and Veronica. I continue to enjoy reading your posts. I just wanted to let you and your readers know that I have made a minor change to the name of my blog (in my earlier comment above) to now be named: http://www.librarymarketingdesign.blogspot.com/ . I look forward to connecting with others who create publicity marketing materials to promote their library services and program events!

I love this website and find a lot of great inspiration here. I will be doing a presentation on graphic design for library staff and at a conference and was wondering if I am allowed to use some of these as examples for the concepts I’m discussing. My slides will not be posted online and I will give credit to Librarian Design Share. Thank you!

Hi Jill,
Yes, everything on the site is under a CC license that will allow you to reuse designs as long as you credit the original designer (the person who submitted the design). If you give a shout out to Librarian Design Share we’d greatly appreciate it! Good luck with your presentation.
